From the Mail on Sunday
On August 21, 2011, an article entitled ‘£1bn mystery of the Marchioness’ claimed that, while her son Antonio was still missing and in the immediate aftermath of the accident, Mrs Maria ‘Boneca’ Vasconcellos had flown to Spain to receive a substantial payment from her son’s former employer.
We accept that this is not true and apologise for any distress caused to Mrs Vasconcellos who sadly lost two sons in the tragic accident.
[I’m not sure if this story has been corrected or not. The claim mentioned in the correction is not made explicitly, but the story still talks about Mrs Vasconcellos receiving a cheque for £1million. There’s no mention of timescales]
On February 12, Financial Mail suggested Derby County FC had once been in administration. In fact, the club’s parent company, Derby County Ltd, went into administrative receivership in 2003. But the club was immediately sold to new owners by the receiver.

John Obi Mikel
Last week we pictured Chelsea FC midfielder John Obi Mikel in our Sport section, but wrongly identified him as team-mate Michael Essien.
